Faro is the capital and hub of the Algarve, the sunny southern region of mainland Portugal, influenced by the Mediterranean! Faro is encompassed around an oceanic community and offers a mix of historic, and modern points of interest as well as interesting nature at its boundaries.
Figueira da Foz, or Figueira as it is shortened to, is 40km west of Coimbra on the Silver Coast of central Portugal. The name loosely translated means “fig tree at the mouth of the river” and may refer to a tree where the first boats tied up. Modern-day Figueira is a sizeable coastal city with plenty of attractions and things to do
The town of Guarda is about 150km inland from Aveiro and has always been a defensive site at the elevation of 1056m above sea level. Colder than most places in Portugal due to its elevation, it is on the edge of the Parque Natural da Serra da Estrela which is one of the area’s most scenic attractions. The area around Guarda is dotted with remote walled villages and castles making it very interesting to explore by car and on foot.
